Prompt

A “prompt” is a piece of text or a question that you give to a language model (LLM) to get a response. Unlike a keyword based question or term that you might use for a Google search, to get the best results from an LLM often requires creating advanced or ‘engineered’ prompts. Think of it like this: In Excel you can use a simple addition formula, or you can use a complicated macro to develop far more sophisticated calculations. One of the reasons a lot of people abandon ChatGPT, for example, after just a tertiary trial, is that they input a Google like search term and what pops out is junk – so they give up. Advanced users (and it’s not so difficult to do) will use engineered prompts to elicit first class responses from the LLM’s.
